In this assignment we were given a case study about a public wholesale food and beverage distribution company who have entered into a contract with a trucking company to lease one of their trucks. The case study had complexities which required us to analyze and review the Accounting Standards Board codification to be able to identify what kind of lease this agreement stipulates. We were asked to advise our client on the accounting treatment for the agreement as a lease and not as a service agreement. Specifically, we prepared a technical analysis in professional memo form detailing the reasoning for our advice with our recommended lease classification, accounting treatment and related journal entries and schedules for the hypothetical client.This assignment showed me the importance of being able to communicate well. The ability to effectively tell a story transcends creative fiction and is necessary in technical analyses of a company’s finances.
