Creative Nonfiction
Our Creative Nonfiction Assignment was based on an artifact found on/in/around campus or in your local setting. Specifically, Professor Colby orients Creative Nonfiction as “...prose with a narrative trajectory of some kind, writing with a teller. It is prose in which how something is said is as compelling as what is said” per Bradway and Hesse (pp. 3-4). As far as artifacts go, we were asked to find something that contains an interesting story, research the artifact, and any builders/participants if present, and finally the context of the artifact itself. Once all that information is gathered, we build a story around the research we conducted. For my Creative Nonfiction, I chose to write about the Chamberlain Observatory in Observatory Park. My story was a brief interaction between a couple, one who was an Astronomy student who was tasked with making observations of the sky overnight, in other words she was working the night shift.
